Me and Orson Welles finds ‘Freestyle’ Distribution Plan

Date:

A full year since it preemed in Toronto, a Richard Linklater film starring (a gay and young female market favorite) Zac Efron and working with a title mentioning Orson Welles (great for film history buffs) failed to drum up enough interest for a sale. Cinetic Media probably received many low ball offers for Me and Orson Welles, and today’s announcement is one example of how the game is changing, don’t throw away titles just because there is a little bit of dust collected, wait it out and make this a collaborative effort – I love how the Playlist calls this one “a frankensteined effort that includes Freestyle Releasing, Louisville-based Hart/Lunsford Pictures, who are putting up the P&A (promotion and advertising) costs, and Warner Bros Home Video who will handle the DVD release.” This receives a November 25th release.

Rooted in theatrical history, this is a romantic coming-of-age story about a teen actor who lucks into a role in “Julius Caesar” as it’s being re-imagined by a brilliant, impetuous young director named Orson Welles at his newly-founded Mercury Theater in New York in 1937.
