MGM comes to the ‘Rescue Dawn’

Date:

Let the games begin! The first high profile film without a distributor to find a taker at this year’s TiFF is the Christian Bale and Steve Zahn-starrer Vietnam War drama. MGM picked up the North American rights to the project and will release the film theatrically this coming December.

Werner Herzog’s Rescue Dawn is based on the German auteur’s acclaimed 1977 documentary Little Dieter Needs to Fly. This tells the real-life story of U.S. fighter pilot Dieter Dengler, a German-American shot down and captured in Laos during the Vietnam War. Dengler, to be played by Bale, organized a death-defying escape for a small band of POWs, including Duane Martin (Zahn).
