Miramax are ‘Back’ in Business with Hicks

Date:

The project was good to go a couple of years back but production never materialized perhaps due to the woes of troubled film financier Capitol Films. THR reports that The Boys Are Back in Town now has the proper footing and have the Aussie-shot film saw Miramax Films come in and acquire the North American and Western European rights (excluding Spain). With filming beginning today, Miramax was looking to work again with filmmaker Scott Hicks – they last paired on Oscar-nominated film Shine.

Starring Clive Owen, and based on a screenplay by Alan Cubbit, this is an adaptation of a book by Simon Carr. This tells of a sports writer (Owen) who must suddenly accept single parenthood as he has to bring up two sons from different marriages. Laura Fraser and Emma Booth also star.

Greg Brenman (“Billy Elliot”) and Tim White (“Out of the Blue”) are producing the film, which begins principal photography today in Australia. Tiger Aspect Pictures and Southern Light Films are co-producers in association with BBC Films and Film Finance Corporation of Australia. HanWay Films is handling international sales and distribution in other territories. Hicks last directed a German comedy remake with No Reservations and lately worked on a docu film called Glass: A Portrait of Philip in Twelve Parts.
