Daily Recommendation 09.29.08: Taxi to the Dark Side

Date:

For today’s IONCINEMA.com Daily Recommendation we suggest:

Alex Gibney’s Oscar-winning 2008 TAXI TO THE DARK SIDE receives a second chance at making a first impression after failing to grab audiences via a proper theatrical pattern release. Check out HBO Documentary Films’ television premiere at 9 P.M. ET/PT only HBO

In the period following 9/11, the Bush Administration’s crusade against terrorists took an illegal turn, with the U.S. military embarking on a policy of humiliation and deprivation intended to get political prisoners to talk.  The inhumane tactics used by military prison guards in Abu Ghraib, Bagram and Guantanamo Bay flaunted the Geneva Conventions while killing a number of prisoners—including innocents like Dilawar, a young Afghan taxi driver whose only “crime” was to being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

  Documentary series.
