Newmarket getting ready for ‘August’

Date:

It hadn’t found a buyer since way back in January when it first premed at Sundance, but after hitting the pavement, screenwriter and first time director John August can breathe a sign of relief: Newmarket Films has pacted a deal with Sony for the rights to the film. Sony gets the DVD & TV rights.

In the same complex spirit as his first screenplay Go, The Nines is a philosophical consideration of the mysterious connections between the lives of a troubled actor, a television showrunner and a videogame designer. Among the players are Hope Davis and Ryan Reynolds.

August (a Tim Burton regular with Big Fish and The Corpse Bride) can now focus his energy on the comic-book to big screen adaptation of Shazam!
