Park Chan-wook’s ‘Stoker’ Lands Star Wattage Pairing of Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman

How does do you grab two Oscar-caliber actors with one stone? Wait until Hollywood’s A-list actors are in town to schmooze during awards campaign season and then cast the net. If this happens to be more than just a coffee meeting, it appears that Park Chan-wook might have landed Oscar-nominated Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman – they would join Mia Wasikowska in Stoker, the South-Korean filmmaker’s first foray into English-language film which begins filming this spring.

Gist: Written by Wentworth Miller, this tells of an eccentric teenager and her mother who are visited by an enigmatic and estranged uncle (Firth) who returns to the family after the death of the girl’s father.

Worth Noting: Jodie Foster and Carey Mulligan were originally mentioned in the mother-daughter roles.

Do We Care?: We’re big fans of the filmmaker and imagine something messed up in the vein of Old Boy. We’re also big fans of the sort of work Fox Searchlight develops and if this English-speaking trio from abroad gets confirmed — this easily becomes a Most Anticipated pic for 2012 and early contender for a Cannes 2012 mention.
