Senator to ‘Splice’ Vincenzo Natali’s sci fi film among three territories

Expect to see Canadian filmmaker Vincenzo Natali’s stock to rise up with the forthcoming release of futuristic tale called Splice. Already a fan favorite among the French, the director who began his career with the cost of a grill-cheese low budget flick Cube and followed that up by Cypher, managed to get his current film financed by Gaumont films and grabbed Adrien Brody and Sarah Polley to star in his futuristic tale.

Screen Daily reports that Senator International has grabbed the German, US and Spanish rights to the picture. Written by Natali, Antoinette Terry Bryant and Doug Taylor,
SPLICE will be a unique sci-fi horror film. A hybrid of cinematic genres as far
ranging as Rosemary’s Baby, Frankenstein, Species and The Fly, with a little
Alien and ET thrown in. SPLICE is the story of an ambitious and brilliant young
couple (Polley and Brody) who embark on a dangerous journey, setting aside
ethics to selfishly pursue personal goals, when they splice human DNA into
preexisting genetic-engineered experiments. The extreme power of modern science
to turn nature inside out then unleashes itself into a creature that soon
becomes a seductive and lethal monster.

In an interview with Comingsoon.net, Natali mentioned that “there’s sex… Very
unconventional sex. The centerpiece of the movie is a creature which goes
through a dramatic evolutionary process. The goal is to create something
shocking but also very subtle and completely believable.”
