Set Pics and Details on Pedro Almodóvar’s The Skin I Live In

The film tells the story of a disturbing revenge plan led by a plastic surgeon, and a film adaptation of the Thierry Jonquet novel “Tarantula” and stars Antonio Banderas, Elena Anaya, Roberto Álamo and Marisa Paredes. The three month shooting will take place first in Santiago de Compostela, in the north of Spain, moving thereafter to Pazo de Oca and finishing in Madrid and the whereabouts of Toledo.

As you can tell from the set pics, principal photography on La Piel Que Habito (aka The Skin I Live In) has officially begun. This is Pedro Almodóvar’s eighteenth film to date. The film tells the story of a disturbing revenge plan led by a plastic surgeon, and a film adaptation of the Thierry Jonquet novel “Tarantula” and stars Antonio Banderas, Elena Anaya, Roberto Álamo and Marisa Paredes. The three month shooting will take place first in Santiago de Compostela, in the north of Spain, moving thereafter to Pazo de Oca and finishing in Madrid and the whereabouts of Toledo. Almodóvar will count with a healthy budget of 10 million euros.

Aside from technical aspects, new details on the plot have been revealed this weekend, El Deseo S.A, Almodóvar´s production company, released the following: “Since his wife perished burnt in a car crash, Dr Ledgard (Antonio Banderas), a well respected plastic surgeon, gets interested in the creation of a new type of skin that could have saved his wife. Twelve years later he succeeds in cultivating it at his lab, taking advantage in the advance made on cellular therapy. To get to his goal he doesn´t doubt in trespassing the ethical limit of the transgenesis with human beings. But this will not be the only crime he will commit…” Also confirmed: longtime collaborators Alberto Iglesias and José Luis Alcaine will return in their music composer and director of photography duties respectively.

The rest of the confirmed cast includes the following: Jan Cornet (“Camino”), Blanca Suárez (“Eskalofrío”), Eduard Fernández (“Biutuful”), José Luis Gómez (“Broken Embraces”), Bárbara Lennie (“Las 13 Rosas”), Susie Sánchez (“The Milk Of Sorrow”), Fernando Cayo (“The Orphanage”) and Teresa Manresa (“Fausto 5.0”). The film has a release date in Spain of March 18th of next year — so as was the case with Broken Embraces with have gotten a domestic release before hitting Cannes.
