Sexton to do ‘Time’ for the ‘Crime’

A grim future may be near, but not for this screenwriter’s career. Timothy J. Sexton‘s knack for penning screenplays that forewarn audiences of the dystopian direction our postmodern, high-tech society is headed, has landed him another project. Sexton co-wrote the Oscar-nominated adaptation of the P.D. James novel about a society that has become infertile for Alfonso Cuaron’s highly acclaimed sci-fi flick Children of Men. More recently, Sexton penned the screenplay for the remake of the cult classic Logan’s Run, which is set in a future where a mandatory death sentence has been imposed for all those turning 21. But with a full plate and likely promises of more ahead of him, the future doesn’t seem all that bad for this screenwriter.

THR reports that the writer has been hired by United Artists to pen the screenplay for Timecrimes, an adaptation of Spanish director Nacho Vigalondo’s pic Los Cronocrimes. The thriller follows a man who unleashes a disastrous chain of events after traveling back in time an hour and a half in hopes of preventing a serious crime. The man commits a well-known faux pas among time-travel aficionados and runs into himself, thus setting into motion a series of irreversible damages.

Following its screening at Sundance in January, UA picked up the remake rights. Steven Zaillian and Agnes Matre are set to produce.

Here is the trailer for the original.
