Stallone has a ‘Death Wish’

Date:

Sylvester Stallone has signed on with MGM to both star in, and direct the studio's upcoming Death Wish remake. The script will be written by Michael Ferris and John Brancato, whose credits include Terminator 3 and the recently announced Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins. Depending on the writer's strike- the film is start filming in March.

Stallone will tackle the old Charles Bronson role, of an ordinary man man who goes on the warpath after an attack on his family leaves his wife dead, and his daughter traumatized.

Lately Stallone's been experiencing a bit of a comeback at the box office. Many laughed when Rocky Balboa was announced, but nobody laughed when the film took in $150 million worldwide, showing that Stallone still packed a mean punch. He's recently finished filming a fourth Rambo installment, appropriately titled Rambo.

I've always been a Sly fan- I grew up watching his films. I love that he's making a comeback- although a Death Wish remake strikes me as a little necessary. The original was definitely a film of it's time, and I always though Bronson was way too bad ass to be playing a regular joe tuned vigilante. Also- wasn't The Brave One more or less a Death Wish remake with the gender of the main character reversed?

Stallone suffers the same problem- I mean, he's Rambo for God's sake! A Death Wish remake would be more interesting if they cast someone who might actually be believable as a regular guy, which would make the transformation to vigilante more shocking.
