Strand Makes Sure that ‘Uncle Boonmee’ Has a Final Resting Place

Strand Releasing, the official North American distributor for all things Apichatpong Weerasethakul will indeed be releasing his latest, Cannes-winning film. The trades report that Marcus Hu’s longstanding co. will distribute Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives in Spring of next year, but you can bet that the local premiere will occur at the Weerasethakul-friendly film festival in Toronto this September.

Strand released a box-set worth titles Blissfully Yours, Tropical Malady and Syndromes and a Century, but I have a feeling that with Palme D’or winner laurels in the marketing of the film that they might make more art-house box office than the combined trio. The pic was my hands down the best offering that the festival had to offer this year…that is until, the film’s second first half bows out with an infamous catfish sequence and then the fantasy and mystery is zapped out of the hard to describe film with what I actuate is a rude awakening of modern day dullness. I’ll definitely be adding a second helping of the film while at TIFF this year.
