Summit Wants In on ‘The Beaver’ Action

Date:

A teen vampire franchise can bring in some pocket change and plenty of high fives in the office, but an Oscar nod does more to satisfy the ego. If we go with prior history, a top Black List vote getter about a man and his plastic doll (Lars and the Real Girl) picked up a best original screenplay nom, and The Beaver which topped last year’s list and features a man playing with a puppet could replicate the same outcome. According to Variety, Summit is moving in on the world rights to the pic which has Mel Gibson starring for director Jodie Foster.

Written by Kyle Killen, Gibson will play a depressed man who finds solace in wearing a beaver hand-puppet. Foster will play the role of the man’s wife. Shooting is currently slated for late September in New York – look for this dark comedy to make our annual “Most Anticipated Films of the Year List,” for 2010.
