The Weinsteins get a ‘Life’

Date:

Even with Hillary out of the running, women across the U.S.A. shouldn’t be despairing. The new Allison Winn Scotch novel, Time of My Life was acquired by The Weinstein Company to be produced by ex-Miramax production exec Meryl Poster (“The Cider House Rules”).

After publishing her debut, “The Department of the Lost and Found” in 2007, Scotch seems to have found her niche in dissecting the lives of her women protagonists, and even though the books have wildly differing characters and story lines, the basic idea to come across for her women characters is to never have any regrets. In “Life”, she tackles a happy, if maybe bored, with “too-much-time-on-her-hands” syndrome infected housewife who, by the power of a massage therapist, gets transported back into time to relive her decisions and realize, or not, that they were the best ones to make.

Lemon-scented house or not, desperate housewives and happy homemakers alike will probably flock to this film. With Poster shepherding films like “Emma” and “Chocolat” to the big screen, taking on “Time Of My Life” seems like easy street.

“Time of My Life” will be released by Random House in October.

Interview: Marjane Satrapi & Vincent Paronnaud – Persepolis

The thrill of meeting Marjane Satrapi reminded me of being 6 years old at Disney Land when I met the living, breathing Cinderella. Except Cinderella was an actress with a blond wig and Marjane is the real woman behind her autobiographical graphic novel, turned movie, “Persepolis”. The distinctive mole on her nose and her dark sultry eyes rose off the page and appeared in front of me, smoking and speaking with a French accent.
