The Gist: Based on a picaresque novel by Czech novelist Bohumil Hrabal, the burlesque rise and fall of an apprentice waiter in Prague during the first half of the last century.

Fact: Menzel’s best film ever: Closely Watched Trains was also based on a novel by Hrabal.

See It:
Winner of the FIPRESCI Prize at the past Berlin film festival, this should tickle the funny bone.
