#14. The Descendants

Director: Alexander Payne
Writer(s): Nat Faxon and Jim Rash
Producers: Payne, Jim Burke, Jim Taylor
Distributor: Fox Searchlight.

The Gist: Based on the Kaui Hart Hemmings novel, this is set in Hawaii, the unconventional family drama tells the story of a newly widowed father — the descendant of landowners and one of the richest men on Oahu — who takes off with his two rebellious daughters to track down his wife’s lover on the island of Kauai.….(more)

Cast: George Clooney, Judy Greer, Beau Bridges, Matthew Lillard, Robert Forster

Why is it on the list?Same ranking as last year, we’re big on the narrative elements of the project and think it is well-suited for Alexander Payne’s styled humor. And who isn’t a fan of the multi-tasker (dramatic/comedic) George Clooney?

Release Date/Status?: My thinking was that this might be ready for 2010, but look for this to be a possible award seasons contender for Searchlight if they choose to release it in the fall.
