#95. Damsels in Distress

Director/Writer/Producer: Whit Stillman
Distributor: Rights Available.

The Gist: This college comedy is about “a group of style-obsessed college girls who take in a new student and teach her their misguided ways of helping people” and they are “convinced that musical dance, sharp clothes and good hygiene — the Dior perfume ‘Diorissimo’ is their trademark — can all contribute to staving off the inevitable self-destructive impulses that follow hard on the heels of failed college romances.”….(more)

Cast: Adam Brody, Analeigh Tipton and Megalyn Echikunwoke

List Worthy Reasons…Its been thirteen years since he completed his yuppie trilogy with The Last Days of Disco (I remember my videoclub having one copy and waiting interminably for its return – I did see it but preferred Metropolitan, which was my Breakfast Club several years after Breakfast Club). What I’m expecting is the best film about preppy campus youth since The Rules of Attraction, actually scratch that, this year’s The Social Network. We also like comeback stories — it’ll be nice to see Stillman show-up after a decade of silence.

Release Date/Status?: Currently filming, I could easily see this in the Director’s Fortnight section in Cannes or part of the Venice Film Festival.
