#79. Gambit

Director: Michael Hoffman
Writer(s): Coen Bros.
Producers: Mike Lobell, Rob Paris and Adam Ripp
Distributor: CBS Films

The Gist: This is based on the 1966 British caper pic that starred Michael Caine and Shirley MacLaine. In this version Harry Dean’s (Colin Firth) plan to steal a painting from one of the world’s richest men is missing one final component — the participation of a beautiful woman to act as his gambit. In Nicole, he meets someone who appears to be the perfect candidate, but Harry himself becomes enraptured with her, causing his plan to take a series of wrong turns...(more)

Cast: Colin Firth, Cameron Diaz, Stanley Tucci and Alan Rickman

List Worthy Reasons…: Rarely do we care for remakes, The Last Station‘s helmer Michael Hoffman isn’t a selling point for this caper film and neither are Cameron Diaz’s short shorts. The reason why this is so high up on our most anticipated list is that the screenplay is signed by the Coen Bros. Oscar-winning actor Colin Firth stars.

Release Date/Status?: Currently in post-production, this is another CBS Films project that could bypass the festival circuit and land a summer release date
