Turturro Tapped to Wrap Trilogy
Cannes – In the final film of the trilogy devoted to remaking Theo Van Gogh’s works, director John Turturro is has been tapped to helm 1-900 a remake of the slain Dutchman’s film “06”(1995). Bob Balaban was initially slated for the project.
The new project follows two lonely souls who meet through a sex chat line. Typically the digits needed to initiate such a call are “1-900”, hence the title choice.
The first pic in the series was a remake of Van Gogh’s Interview, which was directed by and starred Indie vet Steve Buscemi. Buscemi has also worked with Turturro in the Kate Winslet musical romp Romance & Cigarettes, which garnered Turturro a nod at the Venice Film Festival in 2005. Interview co-starred Sienna Miller (Factory Girl) as America’s most popular soap star. The film has its first market screening in Cannes and is expected to be out July 13 by Sony.
The second installment, Blind Date is set to start shooting in Belgium on May 28, and will be helmed by Stanley Tucci, who will also co-star with Patricia Clarkson as a couple who has lost a child and is trying to rebuild their relationship by pretending to be other people on blind dates.
Cinemavault is set to handle international sales.
