The Weinstein Co. is hiring quite a bit this week under their international banner. Signing a pact to release eight U.K. pics a year, they have been busy assigning projects to various (mostly U.K. based) directors. Their most recent (and in my eyes, most exciting) employee is Danny Boyle who will take on Lee Hall and Robert Nelson Jacobs’ Solomon Grundy.

Based on the novel of the same title by Dan Gooch, Solomon Grundy is the story of a man who grows to maturity over the course of a single week. He is born on Monday, christened on Tuesday, married on Wednesday, becomes sick on Thursday, worsens on Friday, dies on Saturday, and is buried on Sunday. Although Jacobs informed the Chicago Tribune he had written the part with John Cusack in mind, Adam Sandler is in talks to play the title character.

In the meantime, Boyle has been busy with Millions and Sunshine. Expected to begin shooting when 28 Weeks Later (Boyle is the exec. producer) wraps, Grundy will be Boyle’s nineteenth film.
