Winterbottom/Whitecross go from Shock Treatment to ‘Shock Doctrine’

Date:

Screen Daily (09.21) reported a couple of days back that The Road to Guantánamo team of Michael Winterbottom and Mat Whitecross are now working on a documentary based on Naomi Klein‘s third novel, Shock Doctrine. Winterbottom who is showcasing his latest picture Genova on the fest circuit will make this documentary his next project.

The book basically discusses how people with different agendas and power deliberately ruin its own infrastructure for some capital gain in the long run. The book points to the most recent mess in Iraq and Katrrina, but Winterbottom is looking to focus “on the dictatorships in Argentina and Chile in the 1970s”.

A doc filmmaker herself (I highly recommend her documentary The Take) Klein will narrate the film, just like she did in a short film of the same name circa 2007 and directed by Alfonso and Jonas Cuaron. Here is the short.
