Thanks to the wealth of affordable filmmaking technologies and in particular laptop video editing and online portals that upload and download short films, the folks at Sundance are at the top of the heap – the short films that are selected for the festival will be posted online once the fest resumes. This year boosts an impressive selection of American and international short films – the organizers selected 71 short films, representing 19 countries, from a whooping 4445 submissions! Sectioned off into 3 categories (dramatic, documentary, and animated) and into two sections (American & World).
Babel, Dreamgirls and Little Miss Sunshine garnered 3 noms each while Blood Diamond, The Departed, Little Children and Notes on a Scandal grabbed a pair each. Winners to be announced on Jan.28th, the SAG noms are chosen by a panel of 2,100 guild members.
Getting ever so closely to the Top 10, our top 20 is filled with an interesting mix of heavyweights (Tarantino, Cronenberg, Boyle and Wes Anderson) and up-and-comers (Sachs, Gillespie, Tarsem, Perelman). Enjoy!
In today’s 10 piece, we got a trio example of filmmakers who’ve waited a while before making their sophomore induction. There is also a healthy representation of big studio films – not necessarily a sign of the times but perhaps an example of better script/project development.
