Similar to the Golden Globes because it is a foreign group of film journalists who conduct the voting (though I'm sure they have no mandate to prefer films loaded in stars), this year's the 15th Lumiere Awards has a pair of films in the top tier that recently that duked it out for the Louis Delluc award. Philippe Lioret's Welcome (which just got picked up by Film Movement this week) and Jacques Audiard's A Prophet (a SPC release next February) received five and four noms respectively.

I would have bet the farm on the film finding a distributor fairly soon after the fest and was thinking SPC was going to grab the title for a certain art-house theater segment of the population.

Fish Tank, Everyone Else, Dogtooth, Police Adjective, A Prophet and White Ribbon are just a half a dozen titles among the 48 films that have a shot at being nominated among several categories for 22nd The European Film Awards.

The fact that Egoyan's film was not invited/or sent to Venice, is not the opening film for TIFF and is a remake on a subpar French film could all be cons, but recent word is, this might be Egoyan's best pic since The Sweet Hereafter. Looking forward to this Canadian content.
