At the beginning of every month, IONCINEMA.com's "Tracking Shot" features a handful of projects that we feel are worth signaling out and that are moments away from lensing. We can expect a surge in film productions starts in January, but the month of December is short on film productions, yet we still have a trio of titles that are worth following.

In what I imagine is like a speed dating between producers looking for coin and those looking to finance the next hot film project, there are a slew of names/projects (not only Canadian, but international) among the 43 listed below that have caught over attention.

It won't be the auteur filmmakers such as the Wong Kar Wais or the Pedro Almodovars that will ceremoniously open the next edition of the Cannes Film Festival but rather, an animated, 3D film from the Pixar folks. Pete Docter's Up will screen for world critics a full two weeks before its theatrical release and as long as you keep away puffy mascots from the steps of the red carpet, I'm fine with that decision.

Every now and then a film comes along and gets at a certain universal truth in an obscure time and place.
