I don't normally associate remakes, trilogies, biopics or adaptions with films from the Croisette, but this year we could receive a little bit of all four if Aleksandr Sokurov's Faust, Kornel Mundruczo's The Frankenstein Project, Wong Kar-Wai's The Grand Master and Im Sang-soo's The Housemaid make the cut. Here are the second batch of predictions.
The Festival du Nouveau Cinema is a staple event for the hardcore Montreal cinephile – it’s an event that quality-wise collects the edgier, controversial fair from the international film circuit and in recent years has started to promote not only new media film forms but the local (Quebecois) auteur cinema.
The final tally and full list of films presented at this year's TIFF have been announced today and hardcore cinephiles will have many options available to them out of the 261 film selected.
First reaction: non-surprise. Many of the films mentioned below were tagged to be amongst the final choices – and the ones that I thought were going to break into the fest (namely a couple of American pics) look to be headed to Italy’s Venice film fest in the fall.
