Key Players in the Cannes Market: Films Distribution

With three in the Director's Fortnight and one in the Main Comp for good measure, Films Distribution are making a significant contribution to Cannes this year – my money is on Katell Quillevere's Un Poison Violent (see pic above) but Wang Xiaoshuai, Jean-Stéphane Bron's doc on white collar crimes that hinder the working man and an immigrant tale gone wrong portrait from Olivier Masset-Depasse could make this a great year for the distributor. Something to look forward to in the near future: Yann Samuell's next effort.

Final Cannes Changes: Jia Zhang Ke and Pablo Trapero in UCR, Mondruczo in Main Comp

The final changes are in for the make-up of the 2010 edition of Cannes and as expected Kornél Mondruczó's latest which now goes by the complete title of Tender Son - The Frankestein Project has been included in the main comp and Wang Xiaoshuaï's Chongqing Blues which was entered in the Un Certain Regard section has been bumped up by one. This would mean there are only 18 titles in total, which is two less from last year's total, and four less from the previous year.

Collector’s Choice: Woodstock, In Love We Trust, Eternal Sunshine on Blu-Ray

Slim pickings this Tuesday (June 9th 2009) as there are only a trio of titles worth recommending. Woodstock: 3 Days of Peace & Music Director's Cut is a fully equipped edition of the Michael Wadleigh documentary film, a great father's day present that curiously comes out before Ang Lee's Taking Woodstock and not sometime in August when Woodstock took place.
