Top 20 Summer Preview 20-11

If you are like me – you’re probably itching more for what the autumn season offerings have in store, but as usual there are still some films worth considering and some treasure troves to discover. Minus the superheroes, talking robots and pirates, I’m proud to present a Top 20 offering of films that will make you think, reflect and better yet are worth the investment in both time and money.

We wanted to be at eye level with her, but not always looking in her eyes, there was a lot of profiles, and sometimes at the back of her head but mostly at her which was very difficult in the middle of the street where it’s impossible to compose with so many unpredictable things happening all around, the best you can do is sort of aim and stick to her and try to find her in this crowd.

Tribeca 2007: Impy’s Island

Apart form the usual Narrative, Documentary, Premiere and World sections, the Tribeca Film Festival has a Family section, showcasing films in all genres that are suitable for kids. I though this was a pretty cool idea, so I decided to check out one of the films and ended up at a screening of Impy’s Island, a German CGI animation featuring the most popular subject of CGI animations – cute talking animals.

Tribeca 2007: Rise: Blood Hunter

Rise: Blood Hunter is the latest project from writer/director Sebastian Gutierrez (screenwriter for Gothika), and screening as part of the Midnight section of the 2007 Tribeca Film Festival. The story centers on Sadie Blake (Lucy Lui), a young investigative reporter who has been working on a series of articles about underground goth cults that, at first glance appear to be “‘Dungeons and Dragons’ with nipple rings,” but are in fact, connected to something much more sinister.

Tribeca 2007: Black Sheep

Black Sheep is the debut feature from writer/director Johnathan King, who follows in the footsteps of filmmaker Peter Jackson with a gory, laugh out loud splatter comedy about a murderous flock of genetically engineered sheep that calls to mind that calls to mind the classic New Zealand horror comedies Bad Taste...
