2006 was a relatively tame year when it came to sexy men in indie and foreign features. While some of the gentlemen below deserve Adonis honors (namely number's ten, two, and one), this year's most memorable men are not receiving praise for their abdominal muscles, but instead (gasp) for their talent? Hollywood seems to have the monopoly on the drool worthy D's - Depp, Damon, DiCaprio, but it's the mix of indie faces, some fresh, some familiar, that win our minds then our hearts. From drag queens to dictators, 2006 was full of characters and this list has them all, both on and off the screen.
Faithful to their controversial docu films, Th!nkFilm has picked up worldwide rights Lake of Fire. Featured at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival, the self-financed black-and-white film is Tony Kaye’s long awaited follow-up to his debut feature length film American History X.
Definitely one of the more hyped films that played this year at Sundance, Black Snake Moan is the third feature film from writer/director Craig Brewer, who broke out in 2005 with Hustle and Flow (and helped make history when the Best Original Song Oscar went to Tennessee-native rappers Three 6 Mafia and their song “It’s Hard Out Here for a Pimp”).
Folks remember this name: Carter Smith. Now try and find a way to see his short film that premed at last year’s Cannes and Sundance. It’s called Bug Crush. The video-hemler & famed photography will now direct his first feature length film. Production Weekly reports that he is on board to helm The Ruins.
Splitting the bill at Berlin, Samuel Goldwyn Films and Netflix's Red Envelope Entertainment have boarded Julie Delpy's romantic comedy and feature-length film debut. 2 Days in Paris (Deux jours à Paris) will roll out sometime this summer.
