New Poster for Taxidermia and Gyorgy Palfi's Future Slate

I'm not sure when Regent Releasing/Here Films inserted Taxidermia into their line-up, but I'm glad I'll get a first chance to see a film that lit up the festival circuit back in 06'. Since the film, Hungarian filmmaker Gyorgy Palfi has pretty much booked himself several projects including the recently preemed I Am Not Your Friend at the Karlovy Vary Film Fest and he is currently working on a trio of projects including his first English language effort in The Blood Hurricaine, Man and Woman and Toldi. Today's poster artwork release is a lot tamer than the original festival poster (view here) and I'm worried that if people to see the trailer (view here) then they'll think this is an art-house horror film when instead, critics have said things such as "Transgressive and transfixing" and "reveals visuals worthy of Terry Gilliam, Quentin Tarantino and Gaspar Noé as the master works of Bergman..."

Filmneweurope reports that producer Gabor Varadi is working with the filmmaker on all three pics - first up: they are looking for a top female thesp (they mention Scarlett Johannson) The Blood Hurricaine. They are hoping for a 2010 shoot and enough co-production money that would allow to shoot in the UK, France and North Africa. This is based on a novel by Hungarian adventure writer Jeno Rejto.

After this, the helmer might take on
Toldi (based on the work of Hungarian poet Janos Arany) or Man and Woman, a film made from clips from the film history vaults.

Taxidermia is one of my favorite films. Can't wait for You Are Not My Friend. Excited for new projects, but Scarlett Johannson?!??! She's a terrible actress. Don't do it, Palfi!

This new poster is fine. Don't you think a poster showing man with his penis on fire might not get placement in as many theater lobbies?

My casting director suggested her and I went to Paris to meet her. She loved the script and she's an amazing actress so of course I wanted to work with her. Playing an artist is very hard as it can come of as super fake, but Elodie is an artist in real life and that translated. Who doesn't like Dream Life of Angels?!

Reviews

Review: Police, Adjective

Patterned with minimalist surroundings, low-key performances and long takes that are filmed in real time, the almost mute Police, Adjective cleverly details how Romanian society has not entirely deposed of, or moved away from its past with this anti-thesis of a Michael Mann film.

Interviews

Interview: Michael Hoffman (The Last Station)

I never wanted to make a biopic about Tolstoy. The film I saw was about the tragic comedy about marriage, about the difficulty living with love and impossibility of living without love.

2010 Berlin Int. Film Festival (60th)

Up to 400 films are shown every year as part of the Berlinale's public programme, the vast majority of which are world or European premieres. Films of every genre, length and format can be submitted for consideration. The Berlinale is divided into different sections, each with its own unique profile: big international movies in the Competition, independent and art-house productions in Panorama, movies specially for a young audience in the Generation section, the most exciting German cinema productions in Perspektive Deutsches Kino, an in-depth look at films from “distant” countries and experimental forms in the Forum, as well as an investigation of diverse cinematic possibilities in the Berlinale Shorts. The programme is rounded off by a thematic Retrospective and a Homage, which focuses on the lifework of a great cinema personality. Both of these sections, which are curated by the Berlin Film Museum, aim to place contemporary cinema within a historical context.
