While it isn’t business as usual in the film world with hundreds of film productions halted and entire quarters being kiboshed, we are nonetheless seeing production companies remain active with the packaging of new projects, we see distributors still making acquisitions, film festivals are figuring out their imminent futures and streaming plus VOD releases means those who write about film have had to adapt. So here we are. The humble launch of IndieSponge — a weekly web-based show where I get to nerd out with a film-going friend and film journalist colleague on the type of stuff that gets programmed at major film festivals.

“Man Plans, and God Laughs.”

So what is IndieSponge exactly? Fellow cinephile (and neighbor) Kevin Jagernauth and I speak the same language: if we’re not glued to the big screen then we’re engaged with the cinema scene in terms of the latest film news developments. If Kevin’s name sounds familiar it’s because he was the former Managing Editor of The Playlist where he still contributes to this day. Set to launch post-Sundance and pre-Berlinale, a couple of conversations would lead to a web-based video format film news project that mutated in form. Noticeably our new social distancing reality meant that something that was destined for something a bit more “in-house” will be published on / temporarily work on the popular video chat format. So here we go with this new venture – thank you for your patronage!
