Video Interview: Beppe Tufarulo – Baradar | Best Live Action Short Entry for the 93rd Academy Awards

Date:

Eligible for consideration in the ‘Best Live Action Short’ category at the 93rd Academy Awards in 2021 is ‘Baradar (Brother)’ from director Beppe Tufarulo. The film is a brief but harrowing snippet from the memoirs of Ali Eshani, an orphaned refugee who made a perilous journey from war-torn Afghanistan to Italy by way of Turkey in the early 2000s. Tufarulo discusses the origins of and project as well as the hurdles of casting and language barriers. Plan for an upcoming feature and potentially revisiting a larger portrait of Eshani are discussed in my interview with the filmmaker.
