2022 Sundance Film Festival Predictions: Babak Anvari’s I Came By

After blasting out of Sundance with breakout hit Under the Shadow (2016) and following that up with a sophomore item featuring a strung out Armie Hammer and hollowed Dakota Johnson (2019’s Wounds), British-Iranian filmmaker Babak Anvari might just end up buying a condo in Park City if his next feature gets presented there. Chances are low, but not impossible, his third feature went into production this summer. Probably working with a budget bigger than his previous pair combined, the Netflix project was set up in London. I Came By is a neo-noir thriller featuring George MacKay, Kelly Macdonald and Hugh Bonneville. Co-written with Namsi Khan, Anvari reteams with his Under The Shadow cinematographer Kit Fraser.

Gist: This follows a rebellious young graffiti artist (George MacKay) who targets the homes of the wealthy elite but discovers a shocking secret that leads him on a journey endangering himself and those closest to him.

Production Co./Producers: Two and Two Pictures’ Lucan Toh.

Prediction: PREMIERES.

U.S. Distributor: Netflix.
