Top 100 Most Anticipated Foreign Films of 2022: #67. Siew Hua Yeo’s The Once and Future

Date:

The Once and Future

If it weren’t for a small blurb last October, we’d still not be in the know about Siew Hua Yeo‘s fourth feature film — and more importantly, the project that follows in the footsteps of his 2018 Golden Leopard Winner – A Land Imagined. The Singapore filmmaker got some backing from Argentina, a country he visited during he pandemic and where he lensed The Once and Future which looks at the beef industry in that country – perhaps closer in nature to Gunda or Cow rather than a traditional narrative. Worth noting: he is already well advanced on his next project: a neo-noir film item called Stranger Eyes.

Gist: This looks at the beef industry in Argentina.

Release Date/Prediction: We see this competing in the Un Certain Regard section in Cannes but we can’t discard a return visit to Locarno.
