Hafsia Herzi, Benoît Magimel & Bastien Bouillon to Blow Out Bday Candles in Léa Mysius’ “Histoires De La Nuit”

Date:

Lassoing the likes of Hafsia Herzi (fresh from showcasing The Little Sister in competition in Cannes), Benoît Magimel, Bastien Bouillon plus Monica Bellucci and Paul Hamy (The Ornithologist), Léa Mysius has locked in an impressive quintet for her rural drama thriller. In the works since 2023, Histoires De La Nuit (aka The Birthday Party) is now in production and seeing that her previous films Ava (2017) and Les cinq diables (read review) premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in the Critic’ Week and Directors’ Fortnight sections we expect this to be a strong contender for a Croisette splash. Mysius re-teams with F Comme Film producer Jean-Louis Livi.

Based on the eponymous thriller by Laurent Mauvignier, set in La Bassée: a village and a few hamlets, including the one occupied by Bergogne, his wife Marion, and their daughter Ida, as well as a neighbor, Christine, an artist who has lived here for years. As Bergogne plans a surprise for his wife’s birthday, inexplicable happenings begin to disrupt the hamlet’s quiet existence before turning into a nightmarish chain of events when night falls.
