A half dozen years ago Peyton Elizabeth Lee moved into a very different kind of coming-of-age story with Wildwood. Voicing Prue McKeel, a headstrong teenager whose baby brother is abducted by a murder of crows, Lee anchors Travis Knight’s ambitious stop-motion fantasy as a young girl forced beyond the familiar world and into an enchanted wilderness where the lines between good and evil, loyalty and betrayal are far less clear than she imagined. Her voice was part of the DNA blueprint that was took her emotions from her voice work and painstakingly crafted those expressions onto the stop-animated version of Prue. The human condition doesn’t get lost in translation on the big screen. After the world premiere screening at the 2026 London BFI Film Festival, I had the chance to ask the actress about her main takeaway from her recent visit at LAIKA studios in Portland, Oregon.
