2012 Cannes Film Festival Predictions: Xavier Dolan’s Laurence Anyways

Gist: The filmmaker’s most personal and biggest budget to date, this is set in the late 80’s and featuring a mix of actors from both Quebec and France, this centers on Laurence (Melvil Poupaud) celebrates its 30th anniversary at the restaurant with Fred (Suzanne Clément), his girlfriend. When he reveals his secret desire of becoming a woman, it rocks their world.

Prediction:  After back to back years on the Croisette (J’ai tue ma mere (2009) and Les Amours imaginaires (2010), Dolan has been cooking up this one up for some time, actually taking a break during filming to capture two different sessions. Moving from the Directors’ Fortnight to the Un Certain Regard section, will Thierry Frémaux find a spot for this in the Main Comp?
