Magnet Moves into Ti West’s ‘House of the Devil’

Date:

Horror helmer Ti West has finally bedded a distribution deal from none other than Magnet Releasing. Currently in post prod with Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever, West had the opportunity to present The House of the Devil in Tribeca this year.

Featuring the extremely cute Jocelin Donahue and her killer freckles in the lead, the film is an homage to 80’s horror films and sees a young girl who takes a babysitting job in a remote mansion with her good friend Megan (Greta Gerwig). She’s desperate for money and the pay is good, but something feels wrong, and Samantha quickly realizes that the girls are trapped. As a lunar eclipse darkens the night sky, she realizes that her employers are not nice people.

Magnet will release the horror pic via VOD in September to be followed by an opening in the month of Halloween (also the same month they might release Nicolas Winding Rehn‘s excellent Bronson. Spout Blog’s Karina Longworth had a sit down with West which you can read here.

Ken Russell’s The Devils – 2010 Fantasia International Film Festival

Iconic director Ken Russell was in town to receive a lifetime achievement award from Fantasia for his 50-plus years in the business, a career that has spawned many genre classics including Altered States, Gothic, and The Lair of the White Worm. But it was the little-seen and hard to find The Devils from 1971 that proved to be Russell's most controversial work, and Fantasia managed to snag a copy to be screened on Russell's big night. In the video, Russell discusses the true story behind the film and receives his award with the grace befitting one of the great filmmakers of all time.
