Ramin Bahrani, Souleymane, Red and Charlie Rose

Date:

While away at Cannes, Ramin Bahrani and Goodbye Solo‘s Souleymane Sy Savane and Red West made an appearance on my third favorite show (after 60 Minutes and Frontline). The trio tapped a segment with Charlie Rose (you’ll want to hit the 36:14 mark below for the start of the interview) and it basically takes you thru the genesis of the film, casting, direction of the film and of course, Red West details his days with Elvis. For those who don’t know it, this is one of the rare times where I emphatically agree with Roger Ebert on the merits of a film and its filmmaker. Released in March, the picture is still opening up in theaters across the country and is close to braking the half million dollar mark. Not bad for an indie film. Bahrani is currently drafting a Western set to take place in 1850 and is hopefully shooting sometime in 2010. We’ll keep you posted on any developments on this fourth feature.
