Weekly Eye Candy: Wrong Video from Patrick Daughters

Date:

The reason why you may not have heard of Patrick Daughters in the film biz is because he has yet to make his first feature, (he was once attached to direct a film back in 03′ called Voyeur for Fox Searchlight and Ashok Amritraj‘s Hyde Park Entertainment but that never materialized) but you’ve definitely seen his work. The music video and commercials director has done tons of vids for the Yeah Yeah Yeahs (seek out the choreographed, one take “1234”), Kings of Leon and Feist. This week’s Eye Candy feature showcases the work he did for Depeche Mode’s Wrong video.

In a fairly thorough interview, Daughters mentions that he got the initial idea from David Fincher‘s The Game – “the inspiration was pretty much that and a heavy dose, bordering on mimicry, of Jonathan Glazer, who’s one of my favorite directors.” Update on Glazer: he is supposed to direct the sci-fi project called Under the Skin.

Wrong is fairly dark, twisted and might remind some of the cruel games in the Saw franchise – but the more alluring features is that there is a narrative and hectic visual approach to telling this poor sucker’s future fate. At this point in his career, Daughters should be close to getting into the feature film game. I couldn’t embed the vid but for a peak of the video, click on the still below.
