After a major boost at this year’s Tribeca film festival, Tomas Alfredson’s Let The Right One In is collecting more and more film festival accolades. The Swedish film (to be released in the U.S under the Magnet Releasing label) picked up a total of four awards at the North America’s premiere fantasy genre film festival.
Along with winning one of the public awards, the horror film picked up Fantasia Film Festival’s Best Film, Best Director and Direction in Photography (Hoyte Van Hoytema) awards. Based on the novel by Swedish author John Ajvide Lindqvist, this follows a bullied, adolescent boy who falls for a girl who may just be a vampire.
The jury was also kind with Satoshi Miki’s Adrift in Tokyo – the picture claimed Best Screenplay prize and was awarded a special mention from the jury for actors Jô Odagiri’s and Tomokazu Miura’s work.
Concluding its 12th edition, the festival set a new, personal record for sold out screenings and for tickets sold. Look for my film reviews (including Let the Right One In) from the festival’s slate in the weeks to come.
