While the focus for awards season these days is Stateside, but the French will soon begin campaign mode for César Awards and other prestigious items such as the Prix Louis Delluc awards. What might be considered a weak year for French cinema, we have several items that hit Cannes this year on contention in the main category (including Richard Linklater’s Nouvelle Vague) and in the first feature section we have Ugo Bienvenu’s Arco, Alexe Poukine’s Kika and Pauline Loquès’ Nino leading the quintet. Venice Film Festival preemed films (including François Ozon’s The Stranger) are shut out here. The winners will be announced December 10th.
