Variety’s Todd McCarthy has delivered a soft blow for those who might have been looking forward to seeing Benicio Del Toro among the invited Cannes projects. Steven Soderbergh unfortunately appears to be many working days away from delivering what is called “the four-hour-plus opus”. However, we a drastically reduced number of films in comp, festival director might keep a final spot open for the picture. A Venice showing appears to be more likely. Speaking of competing festivals, it looks like Woody Allen’s next is going the San Sebastian Film Festival route because producers might want to place the spotlight on the industry, country and festival.
The official unveiling of the competition and Un Certain Regard section is coming to us this Wednesday, followed by Director’s Fortnight selections and Critic’s Week’s batch of films on Thursday and Friday.
In the mean time, Cannes released the one sheet poster designed inspired by a photograph by David Lynch.
