Film Movement falls in love with XXY

Date:

I managed to catch this Argentinean drama at the Toronto film fest several months after its acclaim at
the Cannes – my hunch is that the international film fair specialists at Film Movement have had their eyes on Lucia Puenzo’s touchy directorial debut for a while now.

XXY tells the coming-of-age story of fifteen-year old Alex who carries a heavy secret about her
gender status and, at puberty, must make a decision one way or the other. But
friends visiting from the family’s former hometown with their 16-year-old son,
Álvaro, and the inevitable attraction between teenagers, complicates matters.
