#44. Julia

Director:
Erick Zonca
Writers: Zonca and co-writer Aude Py

Producers: Bertrand Faivre and François Marquis
Distributor: Currently Seeking Distribution

The Gist: The life
of Julia, a 40 year-old seductress, who finds it increasingly difficult to hide
her alcoholism and ends up out of her depth. At an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting
she encounters a young Mexican woman who can no longer see her son so Julia
accepts to kidnap the eight year-old boy….

Fact: This is inspired by John Cassavetes’ 1980 film, Gloria.

See It: It has been almost a decade since Zonca’s Le Petit Voleur was released and 08 is officially the ‘year of the Swinton’ – this is just one among her package of film performances worth checking out.

Release Date/Status?: The over 2 hour thriller is getting its preem over at the Berlin film festival. Expect a company like IFC to pick up the tab. A Berlin film festival premiere unveiling is coming soon.
