Top 100 Most Anticipated Films of 2011: Mary Harron’s The Moth Diaries
Hard to believe that this is only Mary Harron's fourth film and despite this being a sub-genre that appears to have been overcooked, the filmmaker promises to stick to the novel's strong Gothic element and abide by the girl-on-girl vampire sexuality. My personal wish is that the indie filmmaker behind I Shot Andy Warhol and The Notorious Bettie Page has an American Psycho audience in mind as well. We want blood folks.
Top 100 Most Anticipated Films of 2011: Ulrich Seidl’s Paradies
The Dog Days (Hundstage) (2001) and Import/Export (2007) director has got not one, but two films (docu Im Keller is the other) set for a release in 2011, and in "Paradies" we have not one, but three parallel stories (Sugar Mama, Migrant Mother of God, Lolita) that will most likely carry Seidl's bluntly real, awkwardly yummy in your face type of social situations. Sign me up for this Euro item.
Top 100 Most Anticipated Films of 2011: Lone Scherfig’s One Day
I'm a sucker for narratives that work with a format where two young people wrestle with true desire by complicating matters with time and distance factors and ultimately stretch out chances at a reunion. Lone Scherfig showed promise and poise in her first non-Danish project in An Education, but I have a feeling this will cement her status as a go-to director for issues that del with the heart. If Hathaway is every bit as refreshing as her turn in Love & Other Drugs then I'm down for this rom drama.
Top 100 Most Anticipated Films of 2011: Simon Curtis’ My Week With Marilyn
With her perf in Blue Valentine, you can say I've joined the Michelle Williams bandwagon...so I'll be looking forward to her next roles especially a toughie like this one. Add this to the film history buff in me and the fact that I've always had a preference for snapshot biopics (where elements of one's life are covered in less than a month) and I'm officially curious about Curtis' feature film debut.
Top 100 Most Anticipated Films of 2011: Miguel Arteta’s Cedar Rapids
We had this on our list last year and it slightly fell in the rankings, but one gets the sense by the look of the trailer that this goofy-looking, BlackList favorite is the anti-thesis of Up in the Air and comes from the same cloth as The Hangover -- not a bad pairing of films for what could be a career re-launch for indie helmer Miguel Arteta.
