2011 Sundance Predictions: AJ Schnack and David Wilson’s Untitled Branson project

AJ Schnack describes the backdrop of his latest documentary as “like no other place on Earth. Homer Simpson has described it as “Vegas if Ned Flanders ran it.” If ready on time, co-directors Schnack and David Wilson (True/False Film Festival co-founder) may allow us to explore the wonders of Branson, Missouri - the untitled documentary film is the anti-thesis of the Ozarks that Debra Granik introduced at last year's fest. If this is closer in style to Schnack's Kurt Cobain About A Son, then I imagine this could fall into the or U.S Documentary Competition category.

2011 Sundance Predictions: Lucy Mulloy’s Una Noche

Her brother and the feature film's producer, Daniel Mulloy paved the way to a Sundance route when he presented his award-winning short film Antonio's Breakfast at the festival back in 06'. My thinking is Lucy Mulloy will be unveiling her debut film Una Noche in the World Dramatic Competition portion of the fest. Well-versed in using Cuba as the backdrop for this turbulent storyline, Mulloy spent a year in Cuba before she was awarded the Dean's Fellowship to study her MFA at New York University, packed her bags to return to Havana for three years to develop the script, for which she was awarded the Spike Lee Production Grant and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association Grant.

Alex Gibney’s Client 9: The Rise and Fall of Eliot Spitzer

More about the ruthlessness and righteousness of Eliot Spitzer, than the incident that would tarnish his presidency candidacy but not his future in politics, Alex Gibney's Client 9: The Rise and Fall of Eliot Spitzer is a formable account of an enemy's enemies and surprisingly could have been completed without Spitzer's participation. Not a hard hitting political documentary, but a portrait that might give us a little insight on the style Gibney might use for his eventual docu on Lance Armstrong. Here's the Q&A following the public screening last Monday.

2011 Sundance Predictions: Paddy Considine’s Tyrannosaur

Sundance is a great place to start off a budding filmmaking career, just that in the case of Considine, he has been a household name in art-house cinema since appearing in Pawel Pawlikowski's Last Resort. Erik Wilson (Submarine) lenses, and thesps Eddie Marsan and Peter Mullan star in what is an extension of Considine's award-winning short film Dog Altogether.

2011 Sundance Predictions: Azazel Jacobs’ Terri

If new distrib outfitter ATO Pictures hope to give Azazel Jacobs’ Terri some pre-theatrical buzz, they might want to try the festival circuit by going the Park City or Austin route. Jacobs’ previous film, Momma's Man was a Sundance selection and he could come back for seconds especially with John C. Reilly toplining a picture that I feel might be this festival's World's Greatest Dad in terms of tone.
