2011 Sundance Predictions: Brady Kiernan’s Stuck Between Stations

Supported by IFP Filmmaker Labs, the film is a shoe-in for SXSW because of connections with actors Sam Rosen and Zoe Lister Jones (Breaking Upwards), but will count on Josh Hartnett's good standing in Park City to help with the in-roads. I'm not sure what the budget number was on Kiernan's low budget film, but it would be a good fit for somewhere between the NEXT and Dramatic Competition sections.

2011 Sundance Predictions: John Henry Summerour’s Sahkanaga

Of the several IFP Narrative Lab and Lab Fellows mentioned on this list of 50, it's director, writer, producer NYU's Tisch grad John Henry Summerour's Sahkanaga that is the sort of film that is closest to the festival's mandate if I go by what I read here. A project that has been gestating for a while now, took shape out of some basic interviews, followed by a short film going by the title of Chickamauga, and then into a feature -- the sort of low-budget, non-actor, Super 16mm film that could perhaps secure a birth in the very popular NEXT section.

2011 Sundance Predictions: Andrew Dosunmu’s Restless City

I falsely predicted that Restless City would be ready for last year's edition. The reason for this may have to do with the fact that Andrew Dosunmu appears to have a lot going on. A filmmaker whose entry into film was via photography, Dosunmu is a creative director for album covers, music video director for some big names in the music world, hence why this project dates back to 2005, when he workshopped what can be categorized as a drama with a strong music element at the Sundance screenwriting and directing labs.

2011 Sundance Predictions: David MacKenzie’s Perfect Sense

It used to go by another title, it looked pegged for a 2010 release, so there are big question marks with Perfect Sense. Logically a double dip in Sundance and Berlin would occur, but that depends on where David MacKenzie is at with his current project, In the Park. MacKenzie was actually in Park City in 2009 with Spread - the Ashton Kutcher sex dramedy.

Maya Ent. Has ‘Sympathy For Delicious’

It received its world premiere back in Sundance, has a strong cast in Mark Ruffalo, Juliette Lewis, Orlando Bloom and Laura Linney and it received a Special Jury Prize for Directing for first time actor turned director - yet it took 10 months for Sympathy for Delicious to find a distributor. To be released next spring, the indie film has found an unlikely home with Maya Entertainment.
