American New Wave 25: Class of 2010

IONCINEMA.com's inaugural American New Wave 25 (Class of 2010) was a blast to unveil and we'd like to thank those who took a timeout from their busy schedules to provide us with, not only extra info relating to their filmography, but for allowing us to use their pics as well (e.g. Reed Moreno on the set of Elgin James' much anticipated Little Birds starring Juno Temple).

Huppert ‘Captured’ by Brillante Mendoza

Clearly Isabelle Huppert has a thing for Filipino filmmaker Brillante Mendoza. It was not so long ago (May of 2009 to pinpoint the year) where Huppert and her Cannes jury peers awarded Mendoza with the Best Director award for Kinatay (the pressed hissed at that selection) and now, she'll venture off to the Philippines, sometime next year, to star in a picture that will most likely be a brutal drama if we go by the title and the director's previous work.

IFC Have Affair with Sang-soo’s The Housemaid

A Cannes Film Festival import has been picked up by IFC - and it isn't Biutiful. Im Sang-soo's The Housemaid - a pic that surprisingly played in the Main Competition to lukewarm responses has been picked up for a theatrical release, perhaps pegged for sometime next year, but definitely poised to be at the Toronto Int. Film Festival.

TIFF Bound: Brad Anderson’s Vanishing on 7th Street

File this under confirmed films for TIFF 2010 that have yet to be announced. A strong contender for a Midnight Madness slot, Brad Anderson's Vanishing on 7th Street will perhaps have its North American, and most likely world premiere this September. Anderson who presented The Machinist at the fest several years back, usually shuttles between television work and feature films - with his last pic being the train murder thriller Transsiberian.

Factory 25 Places Straitjacket on Ry Russo-Young’s ‘You Wont Miss Me’

Ry Russo-Young's pseudo fictional experimental account (a breath of fresh air in the context of the 30 odd films I saw at 2009's Sundance Film Festival) will finally receive some a theatrical release via the Factory 25 folks. Albeit it'll be a short two weeks and then a DVD release - which could be read as a derogatory remark of sorts, but instead I'm glad that a new Palm Pictures type of label have emerged.
