Weinstein Co. Liken Themselves to Themes in ‘The Company Men’

It's almost fitting that a studio head who is notorious for firing folks and his film distribution company who for the past two-three years has experienced its own set of financial setbacks, has laid claim to a film whose central theme is about the changing market and white collar staffers being handed their walking papers. The Weinstein Co. have apparently been in very long negotiations for John Wells' The Company Men.

Arthouse FIlms to Canvass Jean-Michel Basquiat: The Radiant Child this Summer

It might have been announced just today, but this deal was probably completed several weeks back, Arthouse Films (small NYC-based distributor of docu films) has picked up the rights to Tamra Davis’s film Jean-Michel Basquiat: The Radiant Child. Arthouse plans a summer release, probably right after Julian Schnabel preems Miral in Cannes.

No decisions have been made as to when The Girl Who Played With Fire and The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet’s Nest will be released, but I'm guessing that a logical release pattern would see The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo continue with its theatrical and the homevid runs, and then pull out a quick two step by the end of the year.

Baumbach Confirmed to Direct The Emperor’s Children; Knightley, Bana and Gere Attached

Noah Baumbach had invested a considerable amount of time penning The Emperor's Children and his TLC might have convinced Imagine Ent. to logically go with the Greenberg director instead. Production begins as soon as this Summer.

Hot Docs 2010: Focus Features’ Babies Opens Fest, Best from Sundance Fills Slate

Hot Docs is well-positioned between Sundance and Silverdocs, this year's edition features tons of Sundance items such as Gasland, Bhutto, Joan Rivers - A Piece Of Work, My Perestroika, 12th & Delaware and hopefully an edited down version of Casino Jack and the United States of Money. Also making their international premieres we have Slamdance's And Everything Is Going Fine, SXSW's The People vs. George Lucas and a pre-Tribeca showing of Feathered Cocaine.
