A full nine months later, it is Oscilloscope Lab who will parent the North American release of a film that beamed at fests such as Telluride and Toronto. Imagine if Ken Loach made movies that were a lot more hopeful - this is a smidgen of the impression I had when watching Daly's Kisses - a film that ultimately was an underwhelming dramatic effort.
Cinema Guild Down ’35 Shots of Rum’
I think back to her body of work with films that I've admired but not always had affection in Chocolat, I Can't Think, Beau Travail, Trouble Every Day (featuring Vincent Gallo) and L'intrus - and I think half of these never found a distributor. The Cinema Guild are thinking along the lines of those who gave 35 Shots of Rum tons of critical praise and have snapped up the rights to the drama. Expect a Fall release.
John Curran’s Next Film is Set in ‘Stone’
John Curran has queued up a side job set in Pittsburgh due to lense next month and starring Bobby De NIro. Casting and the producers behind the project will be announced shortly, but Production Weekly is the first to break the news that Curran will direct from a play written by Junebug writer Angus MacLachlan.
Drag Me to Hell and Herzog’s Bad Lieutenant Pegged for Cannes
Besides finding out that Michael Haneke's next will be presented in b&w, Variety's article of the titles that we should see announced in one week's time is a basic re-dotting of the i's and recrossing of the t's. The only speculation worth mentioning comes in the shape of the special screening and/or midnight slot status which may include Werner Herzog's "Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans" and Sam Raimi's "Drag Me to Hell".
