Clearly this won't be this year's Happy-Go-Lucky project for the company, but perhaps a slate filler nonetheless in the fall? Screen Daily reports that Toa Fraser's Dean Spanley was picked up by the English-fair friendly Miramax folks and unless they paid a dirt cheap price for it, I'm surprised that Miramax projects a return on their money -- unless they think O'Toole can pack in some remaining audiences.

Screen Daily reports that the Thai filmmaker is preparing the tale about a man who is dying and whose long-lost son re-appears as a "monkey ghost". Weerasethakul will start lensing Uncle Boonmee: A Man Who Can Recall His Past Lives sometime in October when precipitation levels are at a high.

Magnolia Bookends Summer with ‘Arlen Faber’
I think this will work well with a certain demographic (anyone over 40), and as an individual title this is considered good counter-programming from the Magnet division. IndieWIRE reports that Magnolia pictures as picked up the film in a deal that would call for a summer release (where many of the Sundance buys are winding up).
